Citizen of the Year 2021 now what?

Totally surprised winner of 2021 Central Coast Citizen of the Year

Wow last year what a total surprise being the humbled winner of Citizen of the year. Award based on my contribution to the community through Meals on Wheels, Orange Sky, Cabin Crew Team.

The honour of being at citizenship ceremonies, sitting on grant allocation boards was incredible & so proud to be part of.

I’m still doing my volunteer work as per usual.

Dressing up for meals on wheels, promoting Orange Sky, raising money for Cabin crew team & other worthy causes.

But for me what truly makes a great citizen.

Yes the obvious comes to mind.

Our incredible medical teams, nurses, paramedics, hospital workers, volunteers from so many organisations and causes, at home carers putting their own lives on hold caring for those they love. Teachers, supermarket staff who day in face the public with masks, putting up with abuse & hoping they will go home safe.

But other people are missing like my Dad going to help a person who was being attacked while others did nothing. The friend who defends you against bullying or harassment. The work colleague who calls out racist, sexual, religious jokes. The person taking time to help one of our seniors with signing in, QR codes & not getting frustrated. The drivers letting in a car & even giving a wave . The neighbour checking in on others to make sure they are OK .

These people are demonstrating ethical, care , kindness & sometimes that one person they touch needed it more than ever.

So 2022 …… My vision & mission is Still do what I can, do it with love in my heart. Try my best have a positive outlook & help where I can , help others especially support the at home carers , have fun, include all who wish to help & yes let that car in too.

Be Kind, Be thoughtful and most of all BE TRUE to you.

Hope you can also be part of the Kindness Tribe of Gypsies.
